Brian Wilson Kernighan, (born 1942 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) is a computer scientist who worked at Bell Labs with Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie. The abbreviation 'K' of K & R C and the 'K' in AWK is an acronym for 'Kernighan'.
His name is well known after he wrote the book The C Programming Language with Dennis Ritchie. He said that he did not take part in the creation and design language C ("Those are the work of Dennis Ritchie"). He has made many Unix programs, such as cron to ditroff and Unix operating system version 7.
