Leonid Hurwicz Biography



Leonid (Leo) Hurwicz (born in Moscow, August 21, 1917 - died in Minneapolis, June 24, 2008 at age 90 years) is a professor emeritus at the University of Minnesota, USA. Hurwicz was announced as the winner of Bank of Sweden Prize boon in Economic Sciences in memory of Alfred Nobel 2007 along with Eric Stark Maskin and Roger Bruce Myerson for development efforts in the field of mechanical plans used in the world of economics, social sciences, and political science. He was also a pioneer in the use of game theory (game theory) to the economy, and is the oldest winner of the Nobel prize for this.
