Mario Gómez García (born July 10, 1985, age 26 years) is a German football player who has Spanish ancestry. He has defended the club Bayern Munich. Plays as a striker. Spanish nationality his father while his mother a German.
In the German national team, he played 50 times and scored 21 goals.
Personal life
Gómez raised in Unlingen, an Upper Swabian village in the state of Baden-Württemberg in southwest Germany about 95 km south of Stuttgart and 175 km west of Munich. He was born in the town near Riedlingen. Gómez is a German-Spanish descent (his father is a Spaniard from Granada and his mother is German). He has both German and Spanish citizenship and decided to play for the German national team. His first appearance for the team in February 2007 against Switzerland and he was called on a regular basis since.
Gómez think gay players should come out and think "they will play as if they had been released". He also would like a "radical rethinking" of homosexuality in football.
Club career
VfB Stuttgart
In 2004, Gómez played 10 minutes for VfB Stuttgart in the Champions League match against Chelsea on March 9, and made his debut in the Bundesliga (national league) on May 8th.
In the 2004-05 season, playing for VfB Stuttgart in the Regionalliga Süd (Regional game, then part of the third level of German football after the national team and the Bundesliga), he scored 15 times in 24 games and be limited to eight times in the first team.
In the 2005-06 season, Gómez joined the first team permanently. He played 30 times in the Bundesliga, scoring six times on this level, his first goal came on 17 September 2005. The striker also played five times in the UEFA Cup, scoring two goals and three times in the DFB Pokal-.
In the 2006-07 season, the boy proved himself as one of the top scorers in the Bundesliga. However, he broke his hand on the date of March 10, 2007 and suffered a torn ligament in his left knee. He made a comeback on May 12, 2007, and immediately scored a goal after coming on off the bench. FC Bayern Munich
2009-10 season
On May 26, 2009, Gómez eventually moved to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga record transfer fee, signing a four-year contract. Varying the amount of charge transfer 30-35 million euros, depending on different sources such as Gómez did not score his usual self in his first season for Bayern with 10 goals but he is more productive in a cup with three goals in just four games, unfortunately the lack of assists Gómez and goals. Quite surprisingly, he made an impact like him to start the next game most of the season for Bayern. 2010-11 season
After an erratic first season at Bayern with 10 goals in 29 league appearances, Gómez established himself as a starter during the 2010-11 season (the level at the expense of Miroslav Klose and the injury suffered by Ivica Olic) and finished as top scorer in the Bundesliga with 28 goals. He scored his 100th Bundesliga with three strikes in a 1-8 victory over FC St. Pauli went on May 7, 2011, hat-trick has become the fifth in the Bundesliga in the 2010-11 season, and sixth overall, adding in a hat-trick against Cluj in the Champions League. Gómez has scored 13 career hat-trick in the Bundesliga, three to ten in Stuttgart and Bayern. Gómez also netted eight times in the Champions League and finished in second place in the top scorer this season, tied with Samuel Eto'o, [10] even though Bayern were knocked out in round 16 with Internazionale. Gómez overall in all competitions, scoring 39 goals.
2011-12 season
Gómez start the 2011-12 season in a similar fashion to the previous season's league and he opened an account on the date of August 20, 2011 in thrashing Bayern from Hamburger SV. Seven days later, Gómez scored a hat-trick to go to 1. FC Kaiserslautern. On 10 September, Gómez then netted four goals in a 7-0 victory Bayern Munich from Freiburg. Gómez also scored two goals against Hertha Berlin's 4-0 win at Bayern. Gómez then got another brace on October 29 when Bayern then beat one. FC Nuremberg 4-0. Then on December 11, 2011, he scored his third goal this season and sealed a 2-1 win over Bayern Stuttgart On 2 November 2011, he netted a hat-trick in the Champions League group stage match against Serie A side SSC Napoli. Bayern went on to win 3-2. In the DFB Pokal-Gómez scored only two goals. On December 16, 2011, Gómez scored his 50th for calendar year 2011 against the first. FC Köln.
March 13 brought the second leg Champions League match against FC Basel; Bavarians cancel the match saw them lose 1-0 as Gómez netted four of the seven goals in Bayern, Bavarians fired through to the quarter-finals 7-1 on aggregate. In the quarterfinals, Bayern face the Ligue 1 side Marseille and in the first leg on March 28, Gómez was fired in a goal-11 Champions League to campaign in a 2-0 win for Bayern.
On April 4, Gómez signed a new contract with Bayern Munich, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2016.
International career
Euro 2008
Gómez has both German and Spanish citizenship, but played for all German youth national teams from the age of 17. He made his debut for the German national team against Switzerland on February 7, 2007. Germany won the match 3-1, with Gómez scoring Germany's second goal. Gómez get both caps for Germany, which came as a substitute Kevin Kuranyi in the Euro 2008 qualifier against San Marino, scoring two goals that contribute to the final 6-0 victory.
After Gómez impressed in pre-tournament friendly, Joachim Loew summoned him to the German squad for Euro 2008. Loew break up the strike partnership Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose to Podolski moved to the left wing at the expense of talismanic midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger and Klose in front of Gómez partner. Unfortunately, he was unable to reproduce his club form and missed several clear chances, including an important role in the final group game against Austria. Germany eventually won by Michael Ballack's free kick to seal a place in the knock-out stage but Loew Gómez down to the bench and returned back to the partnership Podolski-Klose. He was an unused substitute in the quarterfinals and semifinals and then came off the bench in the final of Euro 2008 to Miroslav Klose but could not prevent Germany from losing 1-0 to Spain.
World Cup 2010
In the friendlies against the United Arab Emirates played on June 2, 2009, Gómez netted four goals, ending a 15 game goal drought for the national team, in a 7-2 thrashing of Germany.
Gómez referred to as one of six strikers in the 23-man squad for Joachim Loew for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He appeared in four of seven World Cup matches in Germany, all off the bench against Australia, to replace Mesut Özil in the 73rd minute, Serbia, signed to replace Holger Badstuber left back in the 77th minute, England, who came to fellow forward Miroslav Klose on after 72 minutes and substitute Spanish midfielder Sami Khedira on 80 minutes. Once again he has not scored in a big tournament.
Euro 2012
