Cornelius Vanderbilt I (May 27, 1794 - January 4, 1877) is a United States entrepreneur who built his business in the field of shipping and railways under the banner of Accessory Transit Company. He was born in Port Richmond, Staten Island, New York City and is the fourth child of nine children.


At the time of his death at the age of 82 years, the Vanderbilt fortune estimated at more than 100 million U.S. dollars. He bequeathed nearly all his wealth (95 million dollars) to a son, William Henry Vanderbilt and a little rest to the other children.
