Hamid Karzai (born December 24, 1957, age 54 years) is the President of Afghanistan since December 7, 2004). After the Taliban government fell, he became very dominant in Afghan politics and became a prominent political figure in his country. Since December 2001, Hamid Karzai, chairman of the Transitional Government and the President of the temporary (interim) since 2002. He was first elected democratically through December 7, 2004 presidential election.


Hamid Karzai, an ethnic Pashtun from the Popalzai clan i was born in Kandahar, Afghanistan. This clan is very powerful and delivered many Afghan kings. Karzai came from a family that strongly supports the former king, Zahir Shah. Therefore, from the beginning he has been involved in politics in Afghanistan. Karzai fled to India during the occupation of Afghanistan by the Soviet Union and lived there until the collapse of the Taliban. He took post-graduate program in political science at Himachal University in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh (India) in the period 1979-1983.


Then, he returned as a fund-raiser to support the uprising against the Soviets in Afghanistan during the Soviet intervention until the end of the 1980s. After the Soviet troops retreated and the Najibullah government in power in 1992, he served as deputy foreign minister in the government of Burhanuddin Rabbani. In 1999, Hamid Karzai married Zeenat Karzai, a gynecologist by profession as graduates are now in the Afghan and Pakistani territory. The husband and wife gave birth to a boy named Mirwais who was born on January 25, 2007.
