Roberto Di Matteo Life Story



Roberto Di Matteo (in Italian pronunciation: [robɛrto in mattɛo]; born in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, May 29, 1970) is a football manager and former football player the Italian-born Swiss. He is currently appointed as interim manager of Chelsea until the end of the 2011-12 season.


As a player, Di Matteo played as a midfielder. He never played for Schaffhausen, Zürich Aarau, Lazio, and Chelsea.

Matteo strengthen the senior national team in Italy from 1994 until 1998. He scored 2 goals in 34 appearances for Italy and is a member of the Italian squad in the finals of Euro 1996 and FIFA 1998 World Cup.


Di Matteo decided to retire as a football player when she was 31 years old in February 2002 because of a broken leg.

He became the second coach of Chelsea who managed to bring the club into the Champions League final in 2012, after the semi-final away to defending champions Barcelona 3-2 on aggregate

Club career


In Switzerland

Di Matteo was born in Schaffhausen, Switzerland from both parents from Abruzzo, Italia.Ia start a football career by playing in the back position and made his professional debut with hometown club FC Schaffhausen in 1988. Di Matteo then with FC Zürich on in 1991. During a season in Zurich, he played as a libero and able to score 6 goals in 34 appearances in the league.  In 1992, Di Matteo joined FC Aarau is also for one season. Together Aarau, he successfully won the Swiss National League A.


Lazio

In the summer of 1993, Di Matteo joined Lazio on a free transfer and signed a contract duration of three years. He made his debut when coming on as a substitute to replace Paul Gascoigne in the face of Foggia home games on August 29, 1993. Lazio coach at the time, Dino Zoff has always played in central midfield position after the appearance.


At its inaugural season, Di Matteo able to score 4 goals in 29 league appearances. The goals against Atalanta he printed, Reggiana, Inter Milan, and Piacenza. He also suffered fractured right elbow injury during the match away to face Genoa. In the final season, due to not having a relationship with coach Zdenek Zeman harmonious because of a mistake that led to defeat in the match against Inter Milan, Lazio with Di Matteo's career is over.
